Bicycle repair stations were established at two locations in Ula, called ‘Little China’.

Cavit AKGÜN/ULA (Muğla), (DHA) – In Ula, a district of MUĞLA with a population of 25 thousand, everyone from 7 to 70 rides a bicycle. The bicycle, which was first used in the late 1930s, later became the people’s lifestyle. At first, the bicycle was rented for 3 minutes in exchange for an egg, but now children use it to go to school and housewives use it to go to the market.

Bicycle repair stations were established by the municipality at two locations in the Ula district of Muğla, which is known as ‘Little China’ because everyone, young and old, rides bicycles. While the district’s location on flat land provides an advantage for cycling, it is also beneficial for health. The people of the city invite everyone to use bicycles for a healthier life. İsmail Akkaya, who won the post of Mayor of Ula from the AK Party in the last local election, had bicycle repair stations established at 2 locations so that people could repair their bicycles free of charge. District residents are happy to benefit from the station, which has a repair kit and pump, free of charge.

‘IT WILL BE AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHER MUNICIPALITIES’

Mayor İsmail Akkaya said, “Ula’s geographical location is on a flat land. We have placed repair stations in two different places for those who have flat tires or have any problems with their bicycles. We have received positive feedback from the citizens. We are thinking of placing them in more places. It is an application that should be in Ula. I hope it will set an example for other municipalities. In our district, both young and old ride bicycles. We have a population of 25 thousand. Nearly 24 thousand people use bicycles.”

Yusuf Aydınlıoğlu (65), who lives in Ula, said, “The service is very good. We would like the station to be in every corner. Bicycles are indispensable for us. There are almost 3 bicycles in every house.”
